XR Multi-User Gaming Competition
The proposed use case for this vertical experiment is a multi-user XR application for gaming (media vertical). In this use case, two users, equipped with Hololens 2 HMD and a smartphone as a remote controller can play a football car game. In this game, a real small-scale football field and remote-controlled cars are deployed. To this reality, virtual elements are overlayed, such as the virtual game ball, crowd and game modifiers. The mix of this virtual and real worlds is presented to the user via de HMDs. In this game, the objective is to score points by hitting the ball with your car into the opponent’s goal. The physical, real car can interact with the virtual ball with collisions, which is the main innovation of XR applications. Additionally, the player can hit virtual elements (rings of fire) to make a monster goalkeeper to gain an advantage. In the initial use case definition, the game could be played by 2 users at the same time, with one real car for each. However, due to technical difficulties with car the position tracking system, it was decided to use only one real car, while the other player uses a virtual car that can be seen in the HMDs. To keep the matches fair, each player would exchange cars at the middle of the game.
