In evolution towards a software-defined disaggregated Open RAN 5G/6G architecture, the addition of the RAN intelligence increases the attack surfaces surrounding the RIC (RAN Intelligent Controller) and extensible Apps. Beyond attacks on new interfaces and cloud-native architectures, the economic drivers to share RAN infrastructure has security implications necessitating advances in the RIC AAA security and data isolation, to implement ZTA principles and protect against rogue and misbehaviour of Apps and services.
