Critical surveillance and inspection at a maritime port

PORTSAFE-B5G is a forward-looking vertical experiment led by WINGS ICT Solutions and selected in the third Open Call of IMAGINE-B5G. The project proposes a transformative solution for smart port security, integrating mainly Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) for critical infrastructure surveillance, supported by the integration of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), and CCTV cameras. The real-time video streams offloaded by these devices are orchestrated over advanced 5G infrastructure featuring Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC), network slicing, and AI-based video analytics.

The experiment explores how coordinated fleets of mainly ground, and secondarily aerial and maritime unmanned systems can autonomously detect, classify, and respond to security incidents in real-time. By leveraging low-latency communications, dynamic orchestration, and edge-cloud AI processing, PORTSAFE-B5G provides a scalable and modular framework for port surveillance and incident management—setting new standards for safety in critical maritime environments.
