IMAGINE-B5G

Robust and flexible remote production

use case image

5G aims to enhance support for time-critical applications, notably video streaming like remote production. Packet pacing improves network stability and reduces transient queues and packet loss. This is vital for time-sensitive traffic, where consecutive packet losses significantly degrade throughput and increase jitter. This project evaluates pacing’s impact on 5G performance, specifically targeting latency-sensitive multimedia traffic. Although pacing may slightly raise latency, potentially impacting real-time applications, it notably reduces jitter. We explore pacing strategies to balance these trade-offs, aiming for tangible improvements such as higher bitrates, better resolutions, and shorter GoP sizes.
