Affordable and Immersive Holographic Communication service (AI-HOLOCOM) aims to provide portable and easy-to-access holographic experiences relying on an affordable setup and leaning on the features of beyond 5G networks to compensate for other technical limitations. More in detail, AI-HOLOCOM focuses on solving problems related to holographic content production, distribution and consumption using 5G networks. The aim is to lower the access barrier to holographic communications and to provide a novel, appealing application that leverages 5G network features. Our vision is to use available real-time volumetric video technology and beyond 5G networks to transform current holographic communications into affordable and portable experiences with the minimum gap in terms of hardware setup. Through this project, we aim to validate the technical feasibility of this approach and to create a demonstrator that can be used to accelerate the adoption of this technology.
