NTN

DVB-S2X is the dominant technology in the space segment, while 5G-NTN has recently been standardized and is in the phase of experimental evaluation. A comparison between the two under different system configurations, channel conditions, and traffic demands is critical for the operators to choose the suitable one. To our knowledge, such comparisons have been made using Discrete Event Simulators. Recent developments from OpenAirInterface5G, SRS-RAN, and AmariSoft are providing “real-world” 5G-NTN protocol stacks for early testing and implementation. In our experiment, we plan to exploit such open-source tools to compare DVB-S2X and 5G-NTN for Transparent Payload GEO satellite networks.
