6G-PATH
3D Hydrogel patches
This use case aims to validate and evaluate an innovative approach to provide a higher level of patient care for patients with chronic wounds in need of customised patches. This use case leverages a new 5G/6G-enabled medical service for remote areas, relying on nomadic micro-networks that provide reliable and secure connectivity in the patient's area when and where needed. A nurse will be visiting patients at home or care facilities and bringing dedicated devices for the execution of the specialised diagnostics for correct wound assessment, stereo 3D model of the wound (high-resolution multidimensional observation data), the printing of tailored hydrogel patches, and teleconference. These operations will be supported by expert personnel and doctors via remote communication from the hospital to ensure proper handling of the equipment, diagnostics, and instructions for applying the required patches and treatment. The nomadic micro-network will be deployed from the nurse’s vehicle, acting as an extension of the hospital’s campus network. The nomadic micro-network is able to sense the local environment and select appropriate unused frequencies so as not to disturb existing communication. It will be able to discover and select the most appropriate backhaul at the given location (terrestrial or satellite) for interconnecting with the central hospital campus network.
