RIS-based beamforming in FR3 O-RAN

We demonstrate the implementation and demonstration of cost- and energy-efficient beamforming technology for FR3 and the integration of this technology into a 6G-ready radio unit (RU). Energy- and cost-efficient RISs, which are operated in the near field of the base station antennas are used in order to achieve the analog beamforming functionality. Additionally, this system demonstrator will use the O-RAN compliant fronthaul interface and integrate hybrid beamforming capability into the distributed unit (DU) using an xApp/dApp.
