Testing MEC Integration with Open RAN for Low-Latency Industry 4.0 Applications
This use case focuses on advanced private 5G technologies aimed at reducing latency in Industry 4.0 applications. The 6G-MEC experiment follows two main approaches: first, deploying a distributed User Plane Function (UPF) by placing an instance at the network edge, co-located with the O-CU, to minimize user-plane delay at the UEs, optimize edge network performance, and reduce backhaul traffic; second, leveraging network slicing to enable Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC), ensuring high performance for critical industrial applications.
